After 6 flights paying tribute to 435 veterans, Talons Out Honor Flight is in preparation mode for its 2016 spring flights. Talons Out will fly 2 flights this spring, honoring approximately 140 more veterans with their all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Talons Out Honor Flight’s spring flights are scheduled for April 23 and June 4. Both flights will leave from Kalamazoo. Talons Out is still focusing its efforts on World War II veterans and continues to accept applications for WII vets.
“Because of the amazing support and financial gifts of our community we’re able to fly 2 spring flights,” Talons Out President Bobbie Bradley says. “It’s our mission to honor our World War II veterans, so we’re in a race against time. Every day we lose another 500 or so WWII veterans across the country. In another couple years, we simply won’t be able to say thank you. The hardest thing we have to do is call a Veteran to invite them on flight, only to find they have passed. This is a chance, as a community, to honor their service and sacrifice before it’s too late.”
According to statistics released by the Veteran’s Administration, our World War II vets are dying at a rate of approximately 492 a day. This means there are only about 855,070 veterans remaining of the 16 million who served our nation in World War II.
Talons Out will continue to update its website with information on flight days. We are always ready for interviews regarding our mission.
